Weekly Notices, Term 3, Week 1 Namaste and welcome back to the commencement of Term 3 2021. I hope all children enjoyed a lovely deserved break from school and are prepared for another term of important learning. It is a good time for a reminder that the world is still in the midst of a serious pandemic and that we should feel privileged to live in a country with no community transmission. We will be reminding children to still take basic health precautions like washing hands regularly, using hand sanitiser and tissues and coughing or sneezing into the inside of elbows. We ask you to reinforce this message at home as well and to please keep your child home if they are sick. Life Education begins at St Mary's on Monday, featuring Katie and of course Harold the Giraffe. All Kahikatea Middle School classes will have an opportunity to visit the Life Education van for lessons. You may wish to ask your child about what they have been learning in Life Education. Reports are due to go ...

Weekly Notices, Term 2, Week 10

Te Ahiahi Pai (Good Afternoon),  I hope you have been enjoying the sunshine and are feeling recharged as we head into our last week of Term 2.  We have had a busy term with a variety of events and activities. It felt fitting that last week we practised Christian Meditation. It was led by Sister Rachel and Sister Ema from the Sisters of Compassion in Wellington.  During these sessions, children were asked to sit in  S ilence and  S tillness with a  S traight back and  S ay the word Maranatha to themselves, meaning 'Come Lord Jesus'. If you hear your child talking about the 4  S  words, this is what they are referring to.  Christian Meditation is something we are going to continue to practice as a school. It provides an opportunity to take a break and be still, in an otherwise very busy environment!  Things on this week: Wednesday   - Kapa Haka.  Thursday  -  PTA is hosting a disco which is going to be ...

Catfishing 2021

Image
Every week four children from Rooms 16 or 17 have been going to check catfish nets at Ohinemutu, Lake Rotorua. We had not caught any catfish for 2 years but have now caught 3 adults in the last 4 weeks. This has been exciting for the children but not a good sign for the lake as these pest fish are a real nuisance once they grow in numbers.
